The HR SQL DBA role is part of the HR Technology & Change team tasked with the end to end design and delivery of technology solutions to deliver targeted business outcomes across the HR MI&A change portfolio. Your primary responsibility will be to act as a conduit between business stakeholders and development teams to deliver

  • A simplified MI&A technology architecture, supported by easy to use reporting tools
  • A common reporting language (consistent definitions, interpretation of HR data and share best practice)
  • A set of tools that adhere to all relevant risks and control such as data privacy, security and compliance best practice.

The HR Technology SQL DBA works under the direction of the HRDW Dev Lead and designated Project Managers.

This role will focus around the design, development and support of a new HR Data Warehouse platform. These will be delivered as part of either the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) or the Lean Control Process (LPC) depending whether the project is considered to be waterfall or agile.

Irrespective of the project governance applicable, the typical activities cover working closely with Project Managers, Solution Architects, Data Warehouse Designers and Business Analysts to take requirements through to technical design and coding. The role also ensures the test activity is in line with the functional and business requirements, working closely with the different HR Technology teams.

Your Role

  • Work with business owners, business analysts and solution architects to understand business requirements and solution design
  • Translate functional and technical requirements into IT solutions and prepare documentation and specifications for build and for support handover
  • Estimate level of effort required to develop solutions that meet acceptance criteria
  • SQL database administration with Infrastructure build & support capabilities.
  • Coordinate with other onshore and off-shore developers, to deliver working code
  • Conduct peer reviews and provide documented constructive feedback
  • Ensure development meets all the specifications and has successfully passed all tests including unit, integration, regression and system tests
  • Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases
  • Tier-3 support and production release support- respond promptly to requests from the support team in order to resolve user queries and handle technical issues that are out of scope for the support staff.
  • Responsible for the technology implementation of changes
  • Select appropriate tool sets and develop systems such that they fit into Barclays DevOps ecosystems

Essential Skills

  • Architecture design of Database Layout, Object, Security & User group creations, Analysis of Data/Process skews and Performance Tuning.
  • Scheduling Back up, Reclaim, Statistics, Indexes and all Database maintenance activities along with Concurrency and Capacity Planning.
  • Disaster & Recovery Planning and Maintenance of databases ensuring data availability.
  • Troubleshooting Database and Application errors. SQL profiler and analyzer for tracing the database activities.
  • Maintenance and Migration of SSIS packages.
  • Administrative activities of SSAS Cube, MDX querying, Processing and Performance monitoring.
  • Code and Version management of the DB objects in various environments with effective release and deployment strategies.
  • Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as {{Git / Mercurial / SVN}}

Desirable Skills

  • The successful candidate will be educated to first degree level or equivalent in an engineering or computer science discipline.
  • Previous experience within an HR MI & Analytics area
  • Experience of productivity tools like: Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence
  • Master Data services- Creation, maintenance and migration of models, entities and views along with version management.
  • Autosys or similar job scheduler work experience – scheduling and maintenance of jobs to trigger SSIS packages.
  • SSAS- Security configuration and user Role definitions.
  • Visual studio, Red Gate SQL comparator tools for version management of the database objects.
