The Tableau developer will be individually responsible for creating and maintaining intuitive and insightful visual dashboards that vividly express metrics and KPIs.  The tableau developer will get guidance and requirements from product owners / stakeholders / architects.  The individual will be working as part of a bigger team that manages and supports large volume data for the organization.  The team is fast paced, innovative and is empowered to create efficiencies through better tools, technologies and processes. The tableau developer will work in a collaborative manner to solicit information to get the job done.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with / communicate with stakeholders to understand the requirement
  • Analyze and understand data and identify data issues and anomalies, document them and work with ETL engineers and architects to put processes in place to correct them.
  • Develop dashboards with and without drill down capabilities using Tableau
  • Develop dashboards that are intuitive, and quick to understand using effective visualization techniques
  • Use data from multiple database platforms like Oracle, Hive, Impala, SqlServer, Cassandra etc
  • Write SQL queries to read data
  • Optimize and fine-tune SQL queries for performance
  • Work with ETL team and architects to create scalable data marts with aggregates/rollups that enable rapid report/dashboard development
  • Utilize responsive design techniques to make the report render well on mobile devices on Tableau Mobile Application
  • Perform weekly or frequent demos with stakeholders / architects to solicit immediate feedback (agile development)

Technical Skills Required

  • Expert on Tableau software
  • Expert on visualization techniques, and ability to employ these techniques on Tableau software
  • Skilled in preventing mis-representation of KPIs and metrics that leads to misinterpretation of information
  • Good at writing SQLs on different database flavors.  Oracle, Hive, Impala – required.  Others – a plus
  • Skilled in color schemes and themes
  • Knowledge of trendy look and feel of dashboards and reports
  • Ability to estimate work effort
  • Knowledge and experience in Scrum / Kanban SDLC
