This new mobile operating system is set to be released in the month of May 2017, as the 11th annual conference going to take place in that time at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.

Many of the new features regard notifications, and in Android O we will see user-customisable notification channels whereby alerts are grouped by type. Users will be able to snooze notifications and devs can set time limits for notifications to time out.. This should make for easier management of notifications

This feature is aimed to help improve the interactive performance and smartphone’s battery life. Google has added additional automatic limits on what apps can do in the background which fall in three main areas  implicit broadcasts, background services and location updates.

Picture-in-Picture mode

You can easily minimize the videos smaller and navigate to another app. Users can specify the aspect ratio and custom interactions for the PiP.

New Wi-Fi Features

Google is also adding new Wi-Fi features like Wi-Fi Aware, which was previously known Neighbour Awareness Networking (NAN).This feature allows the devices that have an appropriate hardware, apps and nearby devices will connect to each other over Wi-Fi without an internet access point. New ways for third-party calling apps to work with each other and with your network operator’s special features.

Autofill apps

Android O will make it easier to autofill forms or ID/passwords when logging into an account.

The autofill app will store user’s data including email ID, address, usernames and passwords securely. Developers can use Autofill APIs in their apps.

Improved keyboard control

According to Google,this should ensure “more reliable, predictable model for “arrow” and “tab” navigation that aids both developers and end users.”

Android O will support visual effects and can be displayed in various shapes on different devices.For instance: a clock app could simply display at the time or a live clock face.
